Small Clues In The Nephew Room Hint At Something More In The Prescott Murders

The Prescott Murders by Andy Mitchell keeps things grounded with everyday details that start to matter. Once Haseya steps into the missing boy’s room, little things catch her eye and stick around in the story.

Emma House Feels Welcoming Compared To Haseya Own Place

Emma place sits typical for Prescott. Single level one chimney small covered porch out front. Inside though it surprises Haseya. Large throw rugs cover most of the wood floor. Walls show nice wood paneling. Several big windows pull in soft light that feels comforting. Haseya thinks back to her own older house. Only one small window there. Darker. Smaller feel overall.

The Room Looks Plain With A Bit Of Mess

Emma leads down a short hallway straight to the nephew room. Haseya first thought matches what she expected. Plain walls. Some things out of place. Not too tidy. She keeps looking anyway. Nothing jumps out right away but she takes her time.

Fancy Shoes Stand Out Neat In The Corner

Three pairs of newer shoes catch her attention. Fancy kind. Not beat up. Arranged neat on the floor in one corner. Emma nods when Haseya points them out. Says maybe the boy likes shoes more than most kids his age. Small detail. But it says something about him.

Bear Grease Jar Almost Empty

Haseya spots a jar next. Almost empty. Picks it up. Reads the label. Bear grease hair gel. Claims real Rocky Mountain bear oil. She asks Emma straight. You think this actually comes from bears. Emma gives a doubtful look. Smiles a little. Probably not. But the boy bought the jar couple weeks back. Used it lately too.

Boy Been Happy Lately Maybe Because Of A Girl

Haseya asks more. Any enemies. Groups of boys he runs with. Girlfriends maybe. Emma shakes her head. No enemies she knows. Too young for real trouble like that. Sixteen years old. Tall almost six feet. Slightly pigeon-toed. Last few weeks though he acted different. Extra happy. Full of energy. Emma figures a girlfriend in the picture even if he never said her name.

Haseya Decides She Has Enough For Now

She looks around one more minute. Nothing else stands out. Thanks Emma for the time. Says she contacts again if something turns up. Good day. Then heads out. The walk back to her porch office feels longer with her short legs. She figures around thirty-five though ages do not matter much to Navajo folks.

Back Home Raymond Still Lingers Nearby

When she gets there Raymond waits again near the front door. Jokes about reporting in. Nothing new yet. Haseya knows the case barely started. First real client. Low fee to keep Emma from leaving. Half paid upfront. She keeps quiet about being new at this. Work finally came though.
